Robert van Brederode is a tax lawyer and managing partner of a niche tax firm headquartered in Fuquay-Varina, NC. He is a former Big 4 partner heading a tax practice of 90 professionals. Robert was born in the Netherlands where he received his education and started his career. In 1994, he emigrated to the U.S. on a Green Card and several years later he became a citizen. Robert is immensely grateful to the country that welcomed him and believes that America is the beacon of freedom and the gravitational center of Western values.
During his career, Robert has always combined practice with theory. While practicing tax law, he served also as assistant professor at Maastricht University, School of Law, full professor of Taxation at the Erasmus University, School of Economics – both in the Netherland – and adjunct professor an NYU, School of Law. Currently, he serves as University Professor at the GHU in Curaçao charged with supervising Ph.D. students. He is the author/editor of 12 academic books and dozens of journal articles and book chapters.
Robert is a history buff with particular interest in the American Revolution, which truly sets America apart. He also studies philosophy and religion, which he combines with law and economics in his academic endeavors.
Robert’s career made him a resident of several states, New York, Connecticut, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, which made him appreciate the diversity of the United States. He has travelled extensively across the country. In pluribus unum truly is an epithet representing the U.S. accurately. The South and the Blue Ridge Mountains are his favorite.
Robert is married to Heidi, a Connecticut native, and they have a daughter, Kristin. The family owns a dog and a horse.
Robert likes to read, especially on historic, philosophical, and religious topics, is an avid shooter, and dog lover.
